Tennis Australia Extreme Weather Policy (EWP)
As an Affiliated Club we are required to adopt and implement this EWP for any Tournament or Competition.
Key information:
- The EWP uses the Wet Globe Bulb Temperature (WGBT) as the measure of Thermal Comfort. This means the measure used for cancellation of matches due to heat is based on the WGBT, not on an ambient temperature.
- Although the WGBT is not forecasted like the ambient temperature, competition providers can make a decision ahead of time based on the forecast of factors that make up the WGBT
- Where matches are not cancelled and the WGBT is close to cancellation temperature each club must have a person appointed to monitor the WGBT in case the cancellation temperature is reached.
How to communicate and implement successfully:
- Tennis SA asks that all Association or Club Committee Members responsible for the implementation of the EWP to read through the document thoroughly. If you have questions in regards to the EWP please contact Tennis SA.
- Where possible, Associations are encouraged to educate Clubs at Association meetings prior to the season commencing. Clubs are also asked to educate members.
- Each Association or Club delivering programs is required to include the EWP as part of its own program and competition rules documents.
